About
Estuary unites and activates churches beyond their walls to impact lives and make disciples- to seek the flourishing of their cultural estuaries through the beauty, goodness and truth of Jesus.
An estuary is a body of water where fresh inland rivers collide with the salted sea. Estuaries are volatile but rich with nutrients that give rise to new life and ecological flourishing. Inspired by a metaphor introduced to Joey Tomassoni by his mentor Makoto Fujimura, an estuary offers rich imagery that describes our volatile cultural moment filled with fruitful possibilities in the places Jesus sends us.
A cultural estuary describes the places outside the church walls, where Jesus offers His followers salt and light through the beauty, goodness, and truth of the gospel. In our Western cultural estuaries, 80% of our friends, neighbors, and coworkers have become religiously disenchanted, not perceiving the Church as a place to discover answers to the deepest longings and questions of the human condition.
Estuary is a community of Jesus followers, a missional order, who have been inspired by the Holy Spirit to have intentional impact beyond our church walls–to seek the flourishing of the people who inhabit the cultural estuaries of our lives, walking with them to discover Jesus through the beauty, goodness and truth of his gospel. We fulfill this vision through two initiatives: Estuary GO!and Awaken AACO
Through Estuary GO! we partner with local churches by offering a simple program that helps their members have impact beyond the walls of their church. Through Awaken AACOwe cultivate unity among local churches in small geographies to grow in friendship, collaboration with a shared vision for gospel renewal in their area.
